Description :
  • Provide academic advising on both the Turlock and Stockton campuses in course evaluation and selection, CSET waiver eligibility, graduation approval, and required clearances for students in Liberal Studies and educator preparation programs.
  • Mentor students through initial program requirements and the clinical processes to optimize their educational experience.
  • Coach students on credential programs offered in the college and help them select career paths that meet their educational goals.
  • Attend to student academic inquiries; explain degree options, sequence planning, transfer course information, and degree completion timing.
  • Advise students regarding academic policies, major, minor, and general education for degree completion.
  • Monitor and evaluate students' academic progress, provide educational counseling, and refer students to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Serve as a resource to the campus community, and general public on Liberal Studies, credential program, and Commission on Teacher Credentialing policies and procedures.
  • Assist the department with student graduation approvals including proper evaluation of course completion, meeting with student, and forwarding all information to the Department Chair of Liberal Studies for further evaluation.
  • Assist and advice new and entering students in making the transition from their high school or community college.
  • Conduct group registration and information sessions to effectively achieve the university's enrollment and retention objectives.
  • Assist with creating and distributing a range of resource materials designed for the efficient enrollment of students in all populations.
  • Interact with academic Deans, Department Chairs, and Program Directors regarding specific student situations.
  • Participate in new student orientations for freshman and transfer students; explain graduation requirements and assist students with course planning and registration.
  • Hold information sessions on and off campus for students interested in educator preparation programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of courses offered, major requirements, general education and graduation requirements, university procedures, rules and regulations and other student services.
  • Utilize computer technology to maintain detailed and up to date records on each advisee including major requirements, general education, degree and credential approvals.
  • Assist students with campus forms, and petitions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. (Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
  • Experience: Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. (A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.)
